The fourth and final song from the 1981 Peel Session, “Turkey Mambo Momma” knowingly borrows a xylophone motif from the Violent Femmes’ “Gone Daddy Gone.” But it also offers a preview of Jarvis’ lascivious wit, as later heard on songs like “Acrylic Afternoons” and “Pencil Skirt.” Detailing some sort of encounter in Seychelles (an island in Africa and popular tourist spot), “Turkey Mambo Momma” at times verges on a delirious parody of harlequin romance novels. Or maybe Jarvis is indulging in some Freudian self-analysis. “Impaled on the rocks as she tears me in two/ At last I’ve found the answer, and the answer is you.”
